Welcome to our breakdown of August social media ideas – your one-stop-shop for a whopping 117 ideas, all based around the innumerable awareness days, national and international days that occur in August.

It can take time to trawl through online calendars to find days that you can use for your business social media, so we’ve done the hard work for you (Because we’re kind like that!) and come up with a whole blog post, crammed with days that you can adapt and use for your business.

Don’t be afraid, just select which days you want to highlight in your social media – maybe some serious ones, balanced with a few funny ones, too and let your creativity shine!  How you interpret one awareness day might be different to someone else’s view, but that’s where you get to show your personality, so be brave and go with whatever works for you.

So, within this blog, for every day of the month, you’ll find at least one (often several!) social media ideas. Awareness days are a great opportunity to spark conversation with your audience, so ask their opinions, pose questions, create polls…there really is no right or wrong way that you can create a buzz around each one.

As usual, we have included some GIFs and Canva templates for you to copy and use. You can simply download the templates and customise them with your branding and style.  Simple!

August Social Media Ideas Day by Day

1st World Wide Web Day. The day to celebrate that wonderful invention – the internet.  It’s hard to remember the days where, when faced with a question, we didn’t immediately dive for our phones and Google it! Do you know what the first image to ever appear on the internet was? Uploaded in 1992 by Berners-Lee. It was a photo of Les Horribles Cernettes, which is a parody pop band that was founded by employees at CERN. Check it out, if only for the 80s fashion.

Also, National Girlfriends Day (UK), Sisters Day

2nd National Colouring Book Day. The first colouring book was created way back in the 1800s by the McLoughlin Brothers. With the advent of adult colouring books to aid mental health and wellbeing, today’s the day to bust out your crayons and get creative!

3rd Clean Your Floors Day. I’m not entirely sure that an awareness day is going to prompt anyone to hurry home and grab a mop, but just in case you feel like a shimmy whilst you do it, here’s a blast from the past that; if you’re of a certain age, you’re sure to remember singing along to this.

Also, Watermelon Day, White Wine Day

4th Coast Guard Day. In Britain, the RNLI, although not directly linked to HM Coast Guard has saved over 134,000 lives since their founding in 1824. Check out their website to read more about the amazing work they do.

5th National Underwear Day. What can we say? According to this article from Grazia, Marks and Spencers sells 2 pairs of knickers a second, with women on average owning 34 pairs. I’ll leave you to do the maths.

6th Blogger Day. As a regular writer of blogs and an advocate of including them in your content marketing plan, how could I not include blogging day? Do you write a blog? Are you aware of the infinite benefits to your business or doing so? No? Then let me point you in the direction of this beauty of a blog, you’ve guessed it, a blog on that very subject. If you already write a blog, then make sure today to share one of your best on social media. For a great FREE tool that does the sharing for you, check out Missinglettr

7th Particularly Preposterous Packaging Day. One of my bugbears is that impenetrable packaging that comes around razors, toothbrushes, and the like.  The sort of plastic where you cut your hands trying to open the package! If like me, this gets you het up, then today is for you! It’s time to take a stand against unnecessary packaging and to consider the environmental cost of extra rubbish to dispose of.
